Australia A vs India, Tour Game: Day One Report

After Jasprit Bumrah’s maiden fifty in any format of the game guided India to 194, the pacers came to the party as India bowled out Australia A to 108 to secure a 86-run lead on Day One of the three-day pink-ball game in Sydney on Friday.

India, after scoring 194, struck early as Bumrah dismissed Joe Burns in the second over. While Marcus Harris and Nic Maddinson added 40 runs together, Mohammad Shami picked up two wickets in the 13th over before Mohammed Siraj scalped his first wicket in the 16th over. Three overs later, Shami got his third wicket as India reduced Australia A to 56/5, scalping 4 wickets for 10 runs, dismissing Harris, Ben McDermott, Maddinson and Sean Abbott.

Alex Carey and Jack Wildermuth added 27 runs. But Bumrah broke the partnership as he had Wildermuth caught behind the wickets. Navdeep Saini then gave India their seventh wicket as he dismissed Will Sutherland. Saini then ended Carey’s innings before India bowled out Australia A for 108.

Earlier, India lost Mayank Agarwal early after electing to bat. However, Prithvi Shaw, who scored 40 off 29 balls, and Shubman Gill, who scored 43 runs from 58 balls, counterattacked, and put up a 63-run stand before Shaw the former was dismissed for 40 Will Sutherland in the ninth over.

While Hanuma Vihari and Gill added 30 runs to take India past 100, Australia A scalped 7 wickets for 21 runs on either side of the tea session.

However, Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj put up a solid fight and stitched a 71-run stand for the final wicket to take India to 194. While Bumrah scored an unbeaten 55 off 57 deliveries, hitting 6 fours and 2 sixes, Siraj scored a 34-ball 22.
